Karen Gilhooley FdSc (Counselling) MNCS (Accredited)
Hello and Welcome to my website. Thank you for taking the time to take a look. I understand that coming to counselling can be a daunting experience, but I provide a warm, welcoming and confidential environment where you can bring anything you wish to discuss. I work in a Person-Centred way which allows you to talk about whatever you would want to discuss without any judgment. I also provide Compassion Focussed Therapy. I come from a NHS background having initially trained as a nurse. I am passionate about helping people and seeing them overcome and manage personal difficulties.
I have a keen interest in Grief and Loss. Are you going through a tough time at the moment? For instance are you finding it hard to make sense of your emotions right now? Maybe you are questioning what your life is going to look like with the loss you are going through. I cover everything from bereavement, significant life events to supporting people with autoimmune diseases.
I work as a volunteer counsellor with Weston Hospice and I provide an independent counselling service to support family and friends and over 50s for North Somerset LGBT+ forum. Additionally I can help family and friends who are struggling to accept that a member of their family is questioning or transitioning, it is okay to feel overwhelmed I can help you make sense of your emotions when you are ready. I have a keen interest in spirituality and have recently completed my Reiki training. Reiki can be given at the beginning part of a counselling session to help ground and relax you if you wish.

Low Confidence and Self-Esteem
I can work with you for either short or longer term therapy or a one off session if you feel it would be beneficial to you.
If you do decide to contact me, we will have an initial free 30 minute consultation, where we will both discuss whether we can work together. Thereafter, if we continue to work together, I will charge £30 - £40 per 50 minute counselling session. I offer concessions for students, OAP's, Key Workers and people with low income.
